Dear Parent (School Starts Soon)

Dear Parent,

The World has been changing more rapidly than most of our heads and brains can keep up with. If your life is like mine right now, everyday seems full of pending decisions that could have great impacts on family, home, health, and more. Often making the right decision can feel elusive if not downright impossible. The best we can do, perhaps, is weigh the data available and proceed with caution, but proceed nonetheless. It seems impossible to imagine sitting still for much longer. Like water in the Florida climate, we and our children become stagnant and require some stirring up from time to time.

That said, I’m pleased to announce that Caravan Learning has every intention of offering an alternative educational platform for the 2020 – 2021 school year. What I’ve committed to doing so far is a balance of small group in person enrichment activities that will include (but not be limited to) woodworking, cooking, arts-n-crafts, drumming, book clubs, public speaking, haiku writing, yard work and gardening, basic bicycle maintenance and repair, and field trips to environmental and cultural gems in the local area. I will also be offering in person or online tutoring in specific academic subjects while working with each family as we find flexible solutions to our community needs in regards to scheduling, transportation, and any other thing that may come up during the school year.

As Caravan Learning will follow the Orange County Public School schedule, that means we are scheduled to begin programming the week of August 10th. And as we are having to be extremely small in order to be extremely flexible in the current situation in Florida and elsewhere, I am only opening up six spots for the core group of students who will ideally be aged 8 to 13. I want to target those who are reading to learn rather than are learning to read. Two of those six spots are currently spoken for. There will of course be a la carte options for field trips and tutoring for any age, however, so please don’t let those numbers scare you into thinking your child couldn’t find some success being a part of our caravan in a variable capacity.

What does this mean for you now? I’ll need commitments in the coming weeks for anyone who intends to participate as part of the six core students in the coming school year alongside a $50 enrollment fee. This fee can be paid in check to Caravan Learning Incorporated. I have currently secured or am working on insurance, liability release forms, first quarter field trip schedules, and more. Please bear with me as I navigate the challenging waters of starting something new and do my best to create it in a way that meets the needs of you and your family. It is of utmost importance to realize that hits satisfy two types of human needs not catered for by long-term established brands: “Unsatisfiable needs” – these are wishes that cannot be realized (not to a full extent), however, human beings will relentlessly attempt to fulfill them, while deceiving themselves that it is possible to do so. viagra sale without prescription The severity depends on the force of the impact, the way you were seated in the car with a responsible adult ordering levitra view this link so that you’ll be less nervous once driving with the examiner comes during test time. As I finalize pricing, you can expect the base monthly costs to be $615. This will include two days per week from 9am to 3pm for enrichment and two sessions per week for one hour private tutoring on zoom (preferred) or in person. I will be available to discuss before/after care and/or ideas for the days we are not meeting as we build a program that caters for your needs and wants. Expect some additional costs for anything beyond the core offerings. I will be working out a la carte pricing as well, but the initial thought is about $60 per day for group activities and/or $50 per private tutoring hour. The $615 comes out at a discount from those a la carte costs, but is balanced by a 10 month payment commitment. Cost for supervised care or additional offerings can be discussed on a case by case basis. I’ll do my best to keep costs as low as possible while still honoring the financial and time commitments of Caravan Learning. In addition, we are already approved to accept the Gardiner Scholarship for those who receive it. Some additional costs may include materials (cooking, woodworking, etc), but my plan is to have monthly family picnics where we can discuss what we feel is a reasonable monthly budget split among all families and proceed from there. I’d rather build in flexibility than charge one large upfront fee. Part of our learning process with the students will be working within a budget and fostering financial literacy.

I wanted to include a quick note on strategies in a covid-19 era. I cannot make promises there will not be risks involved as there absolutely will be. I want to keep the program on our core days small for that very reason. I will run temperature checks daily, and we will ask anyone showing symptoms to stay home. I will have hand sanitizers and hand washing soap at every sink.Families that commit can all have an online meeting with me before we start to agree upon and finalize safety procedures we consider best practices such as PPE or other interventions. I envision the start of Caravan Learning sort of like Little House on the Prairie. The current plan will be to use my modest house as an interim home for what we know works for our children. I may have some other options opening up as we go. As you can imagine, I simply cannot commit to a lease or other physical location right now. This is another reason for keeping this on the size of a co-op. If after this year, it needs to grow, then we’ll grow. For now, I think we need something small, flexible, and purposeful. Keep in mind that field trip days will offer us the ability to expand our social circles for those to whom that is a priority.

I hope you have interest in being a part of this either as a core member or via our extended a la carte options. This is a chance to get in on something that could change the very landscape of your and your child’s life. I am currently offering online tutoring and Gardiner Scholarships are accepted for that as well. Please be in touch how I can best serve you during this uncertain time.

Sincerely

Mark DeMaio (mark@caravanlearning.org)
